COB Drama

This is for my benefit mainly, as an archive of the goings-on in Brownwoood this fine month of August 2005. COB, or CityofBrownwood.com, run by John Ivy, finally turned into a despot of vile personal attacks, porn posting, left vs. right arguing, and general trash. So he sold it to someone else. Steve Harris would have none of it. Someone at the site was trashing his name and restaurant. Porn supposedly by uploaded to the forums by someone @ HPU. Might have been Hoot Baker - no one knows for sure. Then someone by the alias of JTF started his own COB site. And JI works for Landmark Life where the good 'ole boys are. Next, a meeting was to have taken place between Steve, John and an HPU person. Craziness!! Glad I moved, though I obviously maintain an interest in what goes on. To anyone that reads this besides me, it will mean nothing to you. But let's just say, it's fully representative of small town egos and politics at work.

Now a third very good friend here in Austin has left and I am down to just a few. Crying ensued, in a public place no less. Was it the alcohol? Maybe. I don't make friends easy. When they leave, it hits me hard.

OKC was AOK

had a good time in OKC - played golf - well, no, i drank beer and watched other people play golf, but still it was something different for me. i coulda faked it but i probably would have been the laughing stock of the entire country club. work was good, made progress on the SLX project. went to eat at a fabulous restaurant on the lake - salmon, caesar salad, and chocolate dessert that were simply orgasmic. dunno if i get to go back next week but at least i have several days of work ahead for me.

Ikea announces Round Rock store

Tuesday, August 16, 2005 (from the Statesman)
Furniture retailer Ikea will build a 252,000-square-foot store in Round Rock, its third Texas store.
The company expects to start construction early next year and open the store in 2007. The store will be at Interstate 35 and Chandler Road, an intersection that eventually will include a major outlet mall and other stores, as well as a proposed Scott & White hospital. Ikea has been scouting sites in Central Texas for a year. The store will have 300 employees, a supervised children's play area and a 250-seat restaurant. Ikea, based in Sweden, features moderately priced furniture sold from enormous serve-yourself stores.

Those Nutty Right-Wingers

So, if i didn't have a real job and just blogged all day long like Kos or Atrios or the other goofs, I think I would go insane. I'm a religious (yeah, i know) blog reader and read my favorite blogs every day. But it gets so old and the news they post is so infantile and does nothing at all to progress the cause.

Last week, that psycho hypocrite Michelle Malkin got into a blog fight with the lefty blogs over things she said and they said, and then I said, it's funny, but who really cares. She was voted on one poll as the favored Republican of Web readers. I don't think much of her. She also loves to appear on Bill O'Reilly - umm, duh, fair and balanced ?? yeah right.

But here is a funny site with Michelle vs. Michelle and it so eloquently sums it up. She was asking for it.
It started when she spewed her about Cindy Sheehan, the dead soldier's mom who is protesting in Crawford. She wants to talk to Bush, but of course he has no time for her, even though he drove up the road in his limo to a GOP fundraiser.

Oh yeah, here is an aerial view of Bush's ranch.

OKC

Going to Oklahoma City tonite for a client. Be back Thursday nite. So excited. Oklahoma is like the most conservative state in the nation. Bunch of Bush lovers no doubt.

At least it's a change from the monotony of the office. Love the orange walls (my company color) but after a while, it gets old. We also have an orange microwave, orange cordless phones, orange CAT5 cable, orange pillows on the couch, 2 lamps with orange globes, it never ends. Supposedly, orange was chosen because it is an Energy color - well, then why do I feel sleepy during the afternoon.

Ah well, all in a day's work. I shant complain, change is good. Will try to report back to myself while I'm up there for History's sake.

How to Make your Son Straight

James Dobson - heard the name? Well, Google his name if you haven't, but here is a stupidass blurb I found on andrewsullivan.com on 08/11/05 (it's not Dobson's words but it was in his newsletter) The guy talking is Andrew's guest blogger Dan.

BATS AND BALLS: James Dobson cites some peculiar advice for parents who don’t want their little boys to grow up to be gay cowboys. The gem below, currently up on Dobson’s website, is from quack anti-gay Dr. Joseph Nicolosi:
Meanwhile, the boy's father has to do his part. He needs to mirror and affirm his son's maleness. He can play rough-and-tumble games with his son, in ways that are decidedly different from the games he would play with a little girl. He can help his son learn to throw and catch a ball. He can teach him to pound a square wooden peg into a square hole in a pegboard. He can even take his son with him into the shower, where the boy cannot help but notice that Dad has a penis, just like his, only bigger.
I don’t know whether to file this ridiculous/tragic or tragic/ridiculous.And it’s wrong on so many levels I don’t even know where to begin. I have two older brothers, Bill and Ed. We had the same father, also Bill, and he played the same games with us. I don’t recall ever showering with my dad, but I’m pretty sure Dad didn’t drag my brothers into the shower and waggle his penis in their faces either. So it seems unlikely that my want of face-time with dad’s cock made me gay. And somehow—once again, we had the same Dad—my brothers managed to grow up straight.I have a son, and I don’t shower with him, and I can’t imagine that the Docs Dobson and Nicolosi want me to. My boyfriend, however, does occasionally shower with our son; he takes him swimming at the Y, and you have to shower before you get into the pool. But I kind of doubt that seeing my boyfriend’s penis in the YMCA showers made our son straight. (I’ve been examining my boyfriend’s penis for more than 10 years now—in the shower and other locations—and it hasn’t made me straight.) And I’m convinced our son is straight.

Why? Because the first time he picked up a football he threw a perfect spiral.

The Bayou Floweth Fast

ok, that is a slight tongue-twister.
Here's a photo of the Pecan Bayou in Brownwood/Early rising up to the bridge as it always does when it rains over 4-5 inches. Lake Brownwood is fed by no less than 2 sources and when it spills over, it sends a torrent down the valley into Brownwood, which then sends a torrent along the Bayou to the Colorado River near Goldthwaite, which then sends a torrent into the Highland Lakes, etc. Everytime I see the Bayou rising, I recall the Great Flood of 1990 and 2002. I have VHS and 8mm film of both events. Never forget them.

NeighBlogs & Google

I added a link to the Blogs Near Me on the right hand side scrolling down. Shows a map with nearby bloggers. Pretty cool site that let's you see the neighborhood of bloggers.

Also added the Google search at the top. Now I can truly use my blog as my start page so I can search and use the links on the right to surf instead of pulling down my Favorites from IE.

As tan as I could get for a white boy with Scandinavian ancestry.

This was just before getting into 60 degree salt water at Nauset Beach on Cape Cod.

And let's just say my nickname after that experience shoulda been Little Willie Style.

It Takes a Village

http://courses.cs.vt.edu/professionalism/Discrimination/Diversity.Village.html

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following.

There would be:
57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south
8 Africans

52 would be female
48 would be male

70 would be non-white
30 would be white

70 would be non-Christian
30 would be Christian

89 would be heterosexual
11 would be homosexual

6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and all 6 would be from the United States.

80 would live in substandard housing
70 would be unable to read
50 would suffer from malnutrition
1 would be near death
1 would be near birth
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education
1 would own a computer
