this just in from the Statesman at 4pm today - "Teen guilty of one charge in attack. Glen Gay faces up to 20 years when sentenced in beating, robbery and sexual assault of a man he and three others met at Oilcan Harry's."
there are 2 others on trial as well, they should meet the same fate.

The Crystal Meth Crisis - Scary...
(reprinted from Andrewsullivan.com from a reader's email) - "I read your blog about the meth crisis among gay men. I am a psychiatrist in Atlanta and have a significant gay male population. Of all the mental health disorders I treat - including the most severe forms of psychosis and other affective disorders - meth dependence scares me the most. When I am approached for help by these poor souls, my heart sinks. There is the traditional psychosocial treatment (i.e., 12-step recovery programs), which is great, but I cannot conceive of a more addicting and destructive substance to curse mankind, so I worry that this is not enough. What's more, there is very little press about meth, in the straight or gay media, which leaves the susceptible with the tragic impression that this isn't such a big deal. Yet, the horror stories I have heard - mind you, I am a psychiatrist and I thought I had heard it all - make my knees shake with utter terror. The progress the gay community has made with HIV awareness, research and policy is miraculous. But I agree with you: it is all for naught unless we smother this monster to its evil core. That meth is a vector for HIV is a sad reality; I fear that its potential for total descruction makes it worse than any threat HIV/AIDS has ever presented. We need to see it for what it is: mean, nasty, dirty death."
This used to be big back home in Brownwood and I fear is returning as more and more get hooked.

GW Bush, Jeff Gannon, hotmilitarystud.com
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/17/opinion/17dowd.html?hp&oref=login..."How often does an enterprising young man, heralded in press reports as both a reporter and a contributor to such sites as Hotmilitarystud.com, Workingboys.net, Militaryescorts.com, MilitaryescortsM4M.com and Meetlocalmen.com, get to question the president of the United States?
Who knew that a hotmilitarystud wanting to meetlocalmen could so easily get to be face2face with the commander in chief?"...
Read tha link above - What a bunch of goddamn hypocrites.

ILK2FKYNGBOIS
...would most likely be found on a bumper sticker on Michael Jackson's limo. Watched the expose tonite on ABC from Bashir. I don't think anyone wishes for him to be guilty (it's the USA so innocence first!), but from all we're seeing, it's looking incontrovertible. Perhaps get a better lawyer? Or don't trust a dark English man w/ a video camera asking you questions? Geez...

Tori Amos
Got to see her tonite on David Letterman playing/singing her new song "Butterflies" from the new album
The Beekeeper. She is as good as ever and as beautiful too. She comes to Texas in April for the small solo tour she is doing. Can't wait. Besides seeing Erasure in Houston in May, I'm getting all concerted up for 2005. Yay! okbye...

Hate my job
When it's 75 outside in the middle of February yet you can't take a day off because no one else can fill in for you, you gotta hate your job. Certainly not helping the fair complexion any. Thank goodness for bottle tanning...

Unofficial Real World Austin site
www.realworldaustin.com - sightings, pix, gossip, scandal, gawking, discussion, you name it at this website for any and everyone consumed with the Real World to talk about the season filming right now here in Austin. The house is at 302 San Jacinto, which is next to a client of mine, so I have close access to spy ;-)
The new Sony Ericcson camera phone comes in handy now but I can't email them for some reason so they're stuck on my phone :-(
So far, reports from locals say the girls are up to their usual bisexual selves, meaning lots of woman-on-woman action for the hetero males. Good times!
The season premieres in July on MTV so I hope our city comes out on top amidst all the roommate drama. Check in from time to time...

A Sucker
I am such a sucker. I must be the nicest person in the entire world. I got up at 3am and picked up my sister at the airport at 3:45 and after dropping her off at her house, I made it back into bed at 5, only to find I could not get a good dream going until 6. Needless to say, I made it into work at 11:30. What a day. My sister owes me BIG time.

Wife Swap TV
Just discovered the most outrageous thing today. Some people that I work for are going to be on Wife Swap on ABC at 9pm Wednesday. I knew this from last summer, but what I
didn't know is that the mother switched with a lesbian couple. This mother I work for is a hardcore Republican who would suck GW's big fat whitey, but apparently the lesbian-ness of the experience got to her. Supposed to be the
best ending to a Wife Swap episode yet. Please watch and tell me what you think of this later.

I Miss Miss Jackson
Paul McCartney was great in his own right during the SB Halftime, but there's something to be said for wanting, almost expecting, over-the-top performances from washed-up superstar singers, performances where we don't know what's coming and then - boom! - IT pops out at you on live TV and you gasp to no end until the show is over. It makes you feel good to singalong 'na na na na' with Paul, but I sure won't be talking about it the next day. An overly-exposed singer? YES!
Who do we have to blame for this? Well my gut liberal reaction is to say Republican Christian right-winger hypocrites who want control, a stereotype that I think is fair to perpetuate in this instance. Flame me if you will, but I thought that we Americans just
loved tits-n-ass but I guess when our kids are watching, it's bad taste? Aren't these the same parents that take their kids to movies with tits-and-ass and guns and blood and guts?? Or let them watch HBO when they choose, let alone FOX? Probably the only kids who haven't been exposed to anything scandalous are little Mormon kids whose mommies-n-daddies keep them in a bubble. And I love the idea that most other countries laugh at us at how silly we are trying to control the airwaves and the boobtube. Maybe that's why Howard Stern found satellite so attractive. I'm there with ya.

Brownwood Controversy
Oh yes, how I love to report on some good 'ole hometown controversy and drama. Seems that a once little-known website,
www.cityofbrownwood.com , has suddenly become much more public now that the local hateradio station 96.9 KXYL has been ridiculed by the site's members and discussed the site on the radio after the radio hosts Dave Fair and James Williamson were being talked about (and not in a positive light).
You can read the Forum postings but cannot post unless you register. If you're a Brownwood native or ex-resident, I highly recommend reading thru some of the topics as they are quite interesting and have gained the interest of a wide range of people, some even using their real names. I've been posting under then auspices of a certain dried fruit.
Freedom of expression in a blogging world is a great thing.
