life...is...changing...job...almost...gone

midnight, Houston, a 70-degree apartment, my sister's apartment, dad asleep on the couch, i awake and blogging and saving what is left of my life at work.

violated and attacked today.
never felt worse.
turn the other cheek and never look back is what i tell myself.
start a new job, maybe a new life?

will i make it?

confirmation

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1798944,00.html

This article confirms what I believe to be true. I cannot imagine my life having religion in it as a constant force. That layer in your mind meddling with your own innate sense of right and wrong. Why people think that a book and an old white-hair at a podium should tell us how to live I will never understand.
"Religious belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today...According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems...The study counters the view of believers that religion is necessary to provide the moral and ethical foundations of a healthy society..."
As Karl Marx is quoted - "Religion is the opiate of the masses" and "Religion is a crutch for those who are too weak to face life alone."
or Sigmund Freud - "Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from its readiness to fit in with our instinctual wishful impulses."
or Thomas Jefferson - "Religions are all alike, founded on fables and mythologies."
or Albert Einstein - "I do not believe in a God of theology who rewards good and punishes evil."
or Thomas Paine - "Infidelity is liberty; all religion is slavery."

iPod Nano scratches easy

Would-be iPod owners beware - Apple discussion boards are aflame with recent owners rightly bitching about the screens scratching way too easy. The story is getting picked up all over.
People desperate to save the virgin look of their Nano is prompting them to use iCondoms, Saran warp, transparent vinyl and other inventive tricks to keep them pristine.
It seems that when you mar the screen with enough scratches, it renders it useful for viewing photos.
Let's hope Apple learns and alters the materials it uses before too many of them end up in the marketplace.

Hypocrites II

http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/09/091305military.htm

>>Scholars studying military personnel policy have discovered a document halting the discharge of gay soldiers in units that are about to be mobilized.
The document was made public Tuesday by Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military (CSSMM), a think tank at the University of California, Santa Barbara. It was found during research for a story for the ABC news program Nightline.
The regulation was contained in a 1999 "Reserve Component Unit Commander's Handbook" and is still in effect, according to the Center.
It states that if a discharge for homosexual conduct is requested "prior to the unit's receipt of alert notification, discharge isn't authorized. Member will enter AD [active duty] with the unit."<<

Hypocrites - US Budget Trim Enough

http://www.washtimes.com/national/20050914-120153-3878r.htm

>>House Majority Leader Tom DeLay said yesterday that Republicans have done so well in cutting spending that he declared an "ongoing victory," and said there is simply no fat left to cut in the federal budget. Mr. DeLay was defending Republicans' choice to borrow money and add to this year's expected $331 billion deficit to pay for Hurricane Katrina relief. Some Republicans have said Congress should make cuts in other areas, but Mr. DeLay said that doesn't seem possible.<<

yeah right, so i guess when they passed this bill that it was all OK to go overboard. But now that we need $100+ billion dollars for Katrina relief, there is nowhere else to trim... aww, poor babies.

Round Rock gays come out

http://www.statesman.com/metrostate/content/metro/stories/09/14dragshow.html

Round Rock gays came out of the woodwork and showed up for a drag show at a coffee bar last week and naturally there was controversy. As blue and liberal as Austin is, Round Rock is just the opposite. The article above states that the mayor was expressing concerns on behalf of residents claiming that (in my words) homos are spreading their immoral disease to other people.
Gimme a break, puh-leeeeze.

Smoking Ban in Austin - not so good...

...and here's why.
So last week, the smoking ban went into effect. It was a little anti-climactic.
This past weekend being Labor Day weekend, naturally there were bazillions of people in the ATX and it was just crowded as hell. Plus, a home football game, blahblahblah.

At the Fourth Streeet establishments, the patios were so smoky they might as well have been on fire. I thought to myself - what smoking ban?!?! Well, yesterday, I read the Chronicle's article on the smoking ban and now I get it. Any bar/restaurant that has a patio can allow smoking. So all the cig-addicted homos that have to smoke all congregate outside, smoking their cheap, cheap no-name cigs, inflicting that displeasure on me.

So how is this worse?? Well, we go outside to the patio because the music is quieter, it's not as crowded, and they have couches outside. But now it's worse on a busy night because all the smokers that have to light up as soon as they drink have to go outside. And the smoke doesn't float up into the air - it lingers and permeates your clothing and just wafts around you slowly.

Gross!! Needless to say, I wish the smoking ban would actually force ppl to look at their nasty habit and give it up. If you wanna do a line or take a tab or smoke out, by all means, treat yourself, at least it doesn't affect me. But smoking cigs in public, well, that affects everyone. They also only have 2 compliance officers tasked with enforcing this AND it's a complaint-driven city law so it doesn't get enforced until someone calls to complain about a broken rule.

Only in a perfect world...

A Birthday to Remember

ohmyfuckinggod, i forgot, i have to write this down so i can read it a year from now. my birthday was very much a typical day until 9. R & I went to eat @ Asti Trattoria and afterwards, i figured we'd just go home and that would be it and close the book on another typical birthday. no, no, we went to Charlie's. and it was Monday nite. and Paris Chanel was hosting the wet underwear contest, and well, yours truly won second, $25, and a throng of admirers. i dont know what's more embarrassing, that i had the guts to do it in front of complete strangers or that i danced around afterwards for 30 minutes in nothing but those wet underwear. and then i called into work the next day and took off and did nothing.
besides this though, for eternity, my birthday shall be synonymous with the day that Katrina struck New Orleans and obliterated the city.

Tori Live

saw Tori Amos last nite @ The Backyard. Fantastic performance. Did not listen to her latest CD so I was unfamiliar with some of the tunes, but overall, hearing her voice and watching her hands grace the keys is always stunning and impressive.
