confirmation

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1798944,00.html

This article confirms what I believe to be true. I cannot imagine my life having religion in it as a constant force. That layer in your mind meddling with your own innate sense of right and wrong. Why people think that a book and an old white-hair at a podium should tell us how to live I will never understand.
"Religious belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today...According to the study, belief in and worship of God are not only unnecessary for a healthy society but may actually contribute to social problems...The study counters the view of believers that religion is necessary to provide the moral and ethical foundations of a healthy society..."
As Karl Marx is quoted - "Religion is the opiate of the masses" and "Religion is a crutch for those who are too weak to face life alone."
or Sigmund Freud - "Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from its readiness to fit in with our instinctual wishful impulses."
or Thomas Jefferson - "Religions are all alike, founded on fables and mythologies."
or Albert Einstein - "I do not believe in a God of theology who rewards good and punishes evil."
or Thomas Paine - "Infidelity is liberty; all religion is slavery."
