...and here's why.
So last week, the smoking ban went into effect. It was a little anti-climactic.
This past weekend being Labor Day weekend, naturally there were bazillions of people in the ATX and it was just crowded as hell. Plus, a home football game, blahblahblah.

At the Fourth Streeet establishments, the patios were so smoky they might as well have been on fire. I thought to myself - what smoking ban?!?! Well, yesterday, I read the Chronicle's article on the smoking ban and now I get it. Any bar/restaurant that has a patio can allow smoking. So all the cig-addicted homos that have to smoke all congregate outside, smoking their cheap, cheap no-name cigs, inflicting that displeasure on me.

So how is this worse?? Well, we go outside to the patio because the music is quieter, it's not as crowded, and they have couches outside. But now it's worse on a busy night because all the smokers that have to light up as soon as they drink have to go outside. And the smoke doesn't float up into the air - it lingers and permeates your clothing and just wafts around you slowly.

Gross!! Needless to say, I wish the smoking ban would actually force ppl to look at their nasty habit and give it up. If you wanna do a line or take a tab or smoke out, by all means, treat yourself, at least it doesn't affect me. But smoking cigs in public, well, that affects everyone. They also only have 2 compliance officers tasked with enforcing this AND it's a complaint-driven city law so it doesn't get enforced until someone calls to complain about a broken rule.
